I’m sure you have seen the dreaded 404 Error message shown in our post image at some point in time, but have you ever wondered why you see this message?
This error means that the page you were trying to see on a website couldn't be found on their server. Should you be concerned if this error can be found when users are trying to find your website?
Yes, you should; because if the message between your potential client and your website’s server gets interrupted and breaks down, this can affect the trust that a user has in your site (or your company). Server issues can also damage your rankings in the long run if it affects how search engines find results from your website.
So, if you are moving or renaming a page on your website, or you have changed out an image on a webpage, please make sure that your external and internal links are set up correctly. If they aren’t, your visitors will possibly receive a 404 error instead of being automatically sent to the new page.
Now if they received the Error 404 because they (or you) typed in the web address incorrectly (which is another reason you can receive this error), well there is nothing we can do about that. ?
